Storm Shelters of Iowa was founded in 2014 in the Des Moines, Iowa metro. After witnessing many years of horrible damage caused by powerful tornadoes, Storm Shelters of Iowa saw an opportunity to provide safety for families, schools, and businesses all across tornado alley.
In the fall of 2021, Storm Shelters of Iowa was acquired by business owner Zach Sharpe. Zach is the owner of the Iowa Storm Chasing Network, Iowa’s largest online weather network. Over the last decade, Zach has chased some of mother nature’s worst storms to provide life-saving information to the National Weather Service as well as TV stations, both locally and nationally. Zach’s mission is to provide advance warning using digital means, while also providing physical shelter so if the time came, people would be the most protected.
All of the shelters Storm Shelters of Iowa installs are found to exceed current FEMA standards in tests conducted by the Texas Tech Wind and Science Institute. Shelters that are offered are stationary storm shelters, corner storm shelters, and under-the-bed storm shelters.
